After graduating from the Complutense University at Madrid, Ramon de Miguel Egea served as an assistant professor of Public International Law. He began his diplomatic career in 1973, and after serving in both Africa and the United States, he joined the negotiation team for Spain's accession to the European Community.

In 1986, Ramon joined the European Committee where he worked for 10 years in various positions, including cabinet director for committee members Abel Matutes and Marcelino Oreja. This culminated in his appointment to the position of Energy director. In May 1996, he was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign Policy and European Affairs, a position he held until April 2004. From September 2004 to September 2013, he worked at Iberdrola as an international affairs advisor to the president, and has held positions such as Iberdola Ingeniería y Construcción's president and corporate director of International Coordination.

Between 2004 and 2014, Ramon acted as president of the European bioethanol fuel association eBIO, board member for Abengoa Bioenergy and advisory board member for Climate Change Capital, Indra, Scottish Power and ATKearney. He has served as the director of Transatlantic Holdings, a consultant for UNIREP, the director of FIPRA and a special advisor at the Richardson Center for Global Engagement in Washington DC.

Ramon acted as the Spanish ambassador to France and the Principality of Monaco from May 2014 to May 2017. Since July of that year, he has been a member of Iberdrola's International Advisory Board, as well as LLYC's Advisory Board.
