Erich de la Fuente graduated from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service with a Master of Arts in Latin American Affairs and obtained his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a minor in Latin American Studies from Florida International University. Erich is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese and proficient in Italian and Russian.
In 2001 he founded EDF Communications. As the firm’s CEO Erich has provided strategic communications and public affairs counseling to organizations operating in the U.S., Latin America, Eastern Europe and other emerging markets. EDF has developed a broad client portfolio, which includes Delta Air Lines, DHL, Siemens, Medtronic, Level 3, Honeywell Aerospace, Smiths Detection, Fortinet, Solarcentury, Travelport, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Transparency International, World Learning, The World Bank Group, the American Bar Association, the Pan-American Development Foundation and Operation Smile, among others.
Erich’s work has included leading proactive international public awareness campaigns for Delta Air Lines and Siemens, as well as internal communication initiatives for DHL and Fortinet. He has also led the charge in developing crisis management plans for Level 3 and Smiths Detection. He has also conducted a number of capacity-building training workshops focused on strategic communications and crisis management.
In the area of international development, Erich has been a lead communications consultant for a variety of programs in various countries around the world. To that end, he has collaborated on a wide array of rule-of-law and governance projects involved in promoting anti-corruption initiatives in both the public and private sector. Included in those are the Mobilizing Action Against Corruption Activity (Armenia); the Justice Reform and Modernization Program (Colombia); the Democracy Strengthening Program (El Salvador); the Judicial Reform Project (Jordan); the Institutional Development and Training program (Nicaragua); the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (MCC) Threshold Country Plan (Paraguay); and the MCC Justice Strengthening Project (Rwanda); among others. He has also provided communications training to the NGO Anticorruption Committee of Ukraine and Transparency International chapters of Slovenia, Georgia and Latvia.
A firm believer of giving back, Erich dedicates a lot of his time to various nonprofit organizations. On a pro-bono basis, he serves as a global communications advisor to Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity that performs safe, effective cleft lip and cleft palate surgery. He is also a member of the Board of Directors at National Academy Foundation (NAF), a national leader in the movement to prepare young people for college and career success. Erich also serves on the Advisory Board of the Miami-Dade Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT). He regularly volunteers speaking and counseling high school and college students.
